I am Gretchen Fox (Fuchs), a native German and first -generation American. My immigration, however, was in all likelihood much less strenuous and perilous than that of your ancestors when they came to America and started and made their lives in this wonderful country.
I live in the Seattle metropolitan area. I have worked in the development of handwriting recognition software, and am a freelance translator and writer. I spend a good amount of time in Kiel, my hometown on the North German Baltic Sea coast.
My interest in language, particularly linguistic history was ignited by my 9th grade German teacher, Herr Vach. He introduced me to the Medieval saga “Nibelungen Lied” in its original Middle High German and I went on to study History of the Germanic languages and Linguistics at the Universities of Berlin and Kiel.
