Don’t you hate it when folks are not up front about prices? Me too. However, quoting the transcription and translation of a historic document without having seen any of it is simply not possible.
My hourly rate is $ 95. (I do offer discounts for multiple documents)
If we work on any project this is the minimum you will have to pay.
This could give you:
I will transcribe the document into German and then translate it into modern American English.
You will get both documents.
Some documents may require additional research to put them into the right context.
A neatly written, well preserved entry in a church register from 1750 can be much easier to decipher than a personal letter in a sprawling overly whimsical cursive from 1906.
That said, usually personal correspondence, when well preserved, is not all that difficult to read. So, if you would like to know what was on your forebears' mind, just send me an e-mail with an exemplary scan or photo of the document. We will chat about your project and pricing.
